Sales in the Premium Large segment fell by 12 percent compared to the first three quarters 2015, down to 214,951. While this is a slower decline than that experienced by the Premium Mid-sized segment, it is a much worse performance than either the small 4 percent decline in sales experienced by the Premium Compact segment, or the modest 3 percent growth in sales recorded by the Premium Limousine segment. recording a slightly slower contraction in the second quarter compared to the first one (11 versus 18 percent, respectively).
Highlights for Q1-Q3 2016
- Sales for almost all cars fell over the first three quarters of 2016, the only exception being Jaguar XF, whose sales rose by a sizable 19 percent compared to this time in 2015
- A further four cars experienced positive sales growth in the third quarter:Mercedes-Benz E-class, Cadillac XTS, Lincoln Continental, Volvo 70/80 series and BMW 6-series
- The new Mercedes-Benz E-class in particular is having a good year, and is now firmly ahead of its arch-rival BMW 5-series in the standings
- Sales of Hyundai Genesis may appear to be falling, but that is because the model is now sold as Genesis G80; when pooled, sales of the model have not changed compared to 2015
- With official sales data now available, we know that Maserati Ghibli sells around 500 cars per month
