Fiat Sales Data & Trends for the U.S Automotive Market

Fiat was relaunched in the United States in 2011 after a 27-year absence from the market. The first model sold in North America was the 500 minicar, as a challenger to BMW’s Mini brand. The brand has come very close to hitting its target of 50.000 annual sales in 2014 but has been in freefall ever since. The 500L compact hatchback (marketed as a small MPV in Europe) has been a complete failure and the 500X small crossover, developed off the same platform as the Jeep Renegade, never even came close to its sibling’s sales figures in the US. The 124 Spider, based on the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 Miata, is supposed to be a low-volume halo car for the brand but in fact became its second best selling nameplate in 2019.

While the Fiat 500 minicar for the US market is produced in Toluca, Mexico, the 500L is imported from Fiat’s factory in Kragujevac, Serbia and the 500X is produced in Fiat’s Melfi, Italy plant, alongside its platform sibling Jeep Renegade, while the 124 Spider is produced by Mazda in Hiroshima, Japan, alongside its platform sibling MX-5 Miata.

The 500 minicar is Fiat’s best selling model in the United States.

Please note: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles stopped reporting monthly US sales figures in Q3 of 2019 and switched to reporting its US sales quarterly. From Q3 of 2019 onwards you will find Q1 data in the March data field, Q2 data in June, Q3 data in September and Q4 data in December.
