  • VW Passat still sovereign despite a 28% loss, while its sister model Skoda Superb is firmly in 2nd place
  • Opel/Vauxhall Insignia down to #5 in Q3 but holds on to 3rd place YTD, despite being the biggest loser of the top-10 at -33%. Full year podium appears safe for the Insignia
  • Peugeot 508 up to #3 in Q3 and closing in on the Ford Mondeo YTD, thanks to the addition of the station wagon

  1. Well done Peugeot!
    .
With the SUV hype ruining sales of well-known mainstream models, I still believe this segment needs a car that can compete because of its price. Dacia, what are you waiting for?

  2. Yes, I think Dacia should have already filled the gap mainstream brands left years ago after they went down the wannabe luxury road with their D segment cars like the Insignia, Talisman, 508, Passat, Superb, Mondeo, you name it. The current models are huge and in a way overpriced, because considering their size we would have classified them as E segment. No wonder the real luxury brands are dominating.
    .
Dacia could introduce an affordable sedan/wagon/hatchback/liftback (whatever they think is best) to attract buyers of budget cars who don’t want to drive a small car and don’t think the mainstream brands are worth paying 30-50k euros for. Let’s say a Dacia with the size between the current C and D segment and built with proven Renault/Nissan technology. Basic design of course, but decent enough to not scare people.
    .
This way Dacia can offer a product even Skoda doesn’t have any more (although Skoda will ditch the luxury features). Besides, they would be able to reach new customers who perhaps never thought about buying a Dacia.

  3. Dacia car in class where image is everything because almost no one buys this class as a familly car would be a terrible idea. This is dead class for more or less everyone. 508 is selling well but it will go down next year quite a lot I think. In any case it’s a great contender to replace Laguna III of my father after the market gets flooded with 1 year lease returns for great prices. It’s a pretty car. And also, who is buying Mazda 6, for real now.
