US sales Q3 2017 Large Pick-up segment

US Large PickupSales in the Large Pickup segment grew by 6% in the third quarter of 2017, slightly faster than in the second quarter and pretty much the same as in the first, giving this large segment impressive consistency. With the new RAM Pickup and Chevrolet Silverado on the horizon, things may kick up the gear for the segment in 2018, as it continues to claw back ground it lost in recent years to the Small PIckup and Commercial Vans segments.

Highlights for Q3 2017:

  • Ford F-series has been the star performer of the third quarter, with its sales increasing more, in absolute terms, than for all its competitors combined – this has allowed it to open up an even wider lead to the rest of the segment
  • On the other end of the sales ladder the Nissan Titan continues to gain sales, and even though the rate slowed in the third quarter to 127%, this still means that it has more than tripled it sales so far in 2017
  • Things are much calmer for the models in between the extremes – the GM twins Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra continue to slowly bleed sales, though at least the former distanced itself from the pursuing third-placed RAM Pickup, with the latter experiencing an unusual 3% dip in sales in the third quarter
