In the first nine months of 2020, sales of midsized MPVs in Europe are crashing down with a 49%, selling just over 196,000 units for a share of 2.3% of the European car market, down from 3.2% in the same period of 2019. Only a single nameplate manages to beat the market, with all others losing 36% of their sales or more.

And in this segment too the luxury brands continue to outperform the segment, growing their share from 32.2% in the first three quarters of 2019 to 36.6% now. If the Mercedes-Benz B-Class was the class best seller in Q1 and Q3, the Volkswagen Touran is still on top in the YTD ranking, but by just 45 sales. The BMW 2-Series Tourer was the #3 midsized MPV in the third quarter, ahead of the Volkswagen Sportsvan and the Renault Scenic, but the latter holds on to its podium position so far for the year. The Scenic is the biggest loser of the segment with sales down by more than half. The Citroën C4 Grand Picasso holds on to its 6th place, while the BMW i3 moves past the Dacia Lodgy. The Toyota Prius+ is the best performing model in the MPV class with sales down just 11%, but it still remains the slowest selling nameplate.
