Sales of midsized MPVs in Europe tumbled down another 45% in the first quarter of 2021, after already dropping by 46% in 2020. Its share of the European car market is down to just 1.3%, from 2.4% in Q1 of 2020 3.1% in Q1 of 2019. Only a single nameplate manages to beat the overall market, with all others losing a third of their sales or more.

And in this segment too the luxury brands continue to outperform the segment, as the three models from two brands grow their share of the class from 37.1% in Q1 of 2020 to 41.9% now. Still, the Volkswagen Touran manages to stay firmly on top of the ranking and even consolidates its leadership as it’s the second-best performing model of the class at -33%. The Touran adds almost four percentage points of market share to 21.4%. The Mercedes-Benz B-Class loses more than half of its sales of last year but holds on to second place, as the Renault Scenic is down 40% as well. Best performer of the segment is the BMW i3 electric vehicle, up 6% to jump into fourth place, just ahead of stablemates BMW 2-Series Active and Gran Tourer, down 40%. The Citroën C4 Spacetourer is down 43%, while the Dacia Lodgy is down 34% and gains share of the segment. The Toyota Prius+ is down 69% to just over 1,000 sales for the quarter.
