The midsized MPV segment continues to sink into irrelevance in the first quarter of 2022 with sales down 17% to fewer than 34,000 deliveries. The segement is down to just 7 players, three of which are due to be pulled as well. Luxury brands are taking control, improving their share by more than 11 percentage points to 53% of the class and they now make up 3 out of the top-4 nameplates, including the top two.

We have a new class leader in 2022, as former niche model BMW i3 is the only nameplate in the segment to improve on last year, and it does so convincingly at +38%. That allows it to storm to the top of the ranking with a share of 22.3%. The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is almost stable at -1% in second place, while the former leader Volkswagen Touran loses 40% of its sales and drops to third. With a new genreration due soon, the BMW 2-Series Active and Gran Tourer look set to become the class leaders this year, but for now they’re down 22% in 4th place. All other models have already been killed or will be killed soon.
