Compact Sports car segment

Compact sports cars have underperformed in recent years, and they’re underperforming the overall market. The BMW Z4 continues its class leadership, despite losing 16% of its sales. The Mazda MX-5 is down 42% in the second quarter and 29% year-to-date. At least it manages to stay ahead of the Audi TT, which is down 9% on last year, and the Porsche 718 which is down 17%. Best performer in the top-10 is the Alpine A110 which is undergoing a revival at +76% on last year to leapfrog the Ford Mustang (-30%). The latter’s rival Dodge Challenger is down 28% but sells less than a tenth of the Mustang in Europe. Worst performers in the top-10 are the Lotus Elise (-43%), Toyota Supra (-41%) and Lotus Exige (-34%). Production of the Lotuses has ended already as they’re being replaced by the Emira.
