Leopaard Sales Data & Trends for the Chinese Automotive Market
Leopaard is a brand of GAC Changfeng Motor, which started making automobiles in 1986 and is a subsidiary of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (GAC), which also produces and markets the Gonow and GAC-Trumpchi (sub-)brands in China and has manufacturing Joint Ventures with Fiat, Honda, Mitsubishi and Toyota.
Until a few years ago, Changfeng Motor mostly produced SUVs based on the second generation Mitsubishi Pajero under license of Mitsubishi and sold them in China under the brand name Changfeng Liebao, which translates into Cheetah (Leopard). The contract was terminated when Changfeng was acquired by GAC, but the company continued to use the Mitsubishi platforms and engines to build SUVs. The Leopaard brand name was introduced late 2014 to give the brand a more international sounding name.
