China auto sales statistics for Jaguar only include the models that are locally produced in China through the Chery-Jaguar Land Rover Joint Venture with local manufacturing partner Chery Auto, and excludes import models.

Production of the Jaguar XFL started in September 2016 in the factory in Changsu, Jiangsu province, which features China’s first purpose-built aluminium body shop. Production of the smaller XEL started at the end of 2017, followed by the E-Pace small crossover at the end of 2018.

Car sales statistics from China only include domestic production and exclude imported models.

  1. Here’s a quote from the Automotive News February 18, 2019 issue:
    “…JLR’s China sales surged to 146,399 in 2017 from 92,474 in 2015.”
    Quite a contrast with your numbers.
    But we see this problem coming from all sources, year after year , and it’s compounded by stats that don’t distinguish between imports, and the made-in-China units.
    Perhaps you can help clarify this for us.

    1. Hi Lawrence,

      as you mention, we only include sales of locally produced vehicles and exclude imports in our data, for the sake of comparison between brands and models. The data you mention from AN includes imports so obviously is different from our data.
