US sales Q1-Q3 2016 Large Sports segment

US large sports

Sales in the Large Sports segment kept level in the third quarter of 2016, which combined in the saled declines in the first two quarters resulted in a 13 percent fall in sales so far this year, making it the worst performing from among the Sports segments.

Highlights for Q1-Q3 2016:

Maserati GranTurismo
  • The decline in sales of Chevy Corvette halted in the third quarter of the year, and even that still means that the model lost 14 percent in sales, it nonetheless remains the undisputed segment leader, selling more than three times as many units as the second-placed Porsche 911
  • Many models in the segment experienced a steady decline in sales: Porsche 911, Jaguar F-TypeMercedes-Benz SL and BMW i8 all lost between 5 and 2o percent in sales compared to 2015
  • The only two models to gain sales so far in 2016 are Mercedes-AMG GT (sales up 7 percent) and Audi R8  (sales up 17 percent), though the small rise of the new R8 could be viewed as disappointing, and explains why the under-fire brand is thinking of not replacing the car once the current generation runs its course
  • New sales data allow us to see how Maserati GranTurismo and Bentley Continental GT have been doing in the segment, allowing them to place 5th and 8th, respectively
  • The Nissan GT-R continued to lose sales, though it still outsold the new, high-tech Acura NSX by a large factor
