US sales 2016 first half Limousine segment

US limousine segment

Sales in the Premium Limousine segment continued falling in the second quarter of the year, albeit at a slower pace than in the first: 2 percent in Q2, versus 11 percent in Q1, resulting in an overall fall of 6 percent compared to the first half of 2015. The relative recovery in the second quarter is largely due to two models: the new BMW 7-series and, in particular, Cadillac CT6.

Highlights for Q1 2016

Cadillac CT6
  • The fall in sales of the previously-undisputed segment-leader, Mercedes-Benz S-class, accelerated even further in the second quarter of the year, when it registered a 22 percent drop
  • After getting off to a good start in the first half of the year, when it registered a 19 percent rise in sales, BMW 7-series sold no more units in the second quarter than it did last year; still, this was good enough to make it the fastest-growing model, sales-wise, for the half-year
  • Cadillac CT6 had a great Q2, finding almost 2,000 new homes, which was good enough for fifth place in the rankings for the quarter, only some 200 units behind the fourth-placed Porsche Panamera
  • This is the first time we’ve had a crack at estimating sales of Maserati Quattroport, which if allocated the same share of Maserati’s sales as it takes in Europe (10 percent) ranks in ninth place, better only than the Kia K900
  • Sales of Porsche Panamera grew by 5 percent in the second quarter, suggesting that dealers are offering incentives to make space for the new model, sales of which are slated to begin in the next few months
