US sales 2015 Q1-Q3 Premium Mid-sized SUV segment

US sales premium mid-sized suv

The Premium Mid-sized SUV segment grew by 33% over the first three quarters of 2015, and an impressive 48% in Q3.

Highlights:

  • The model whose sales grew fastest in Q3 was the Cadillac SRX (sales up 60%), presumably as Cadillac tries to clear the forecourts in time for the arrival of the model’s replacement, the XT5
  • Other models whose sales were up a lot in Q3 were the Porsche Macan (up 54%) and Audi Q5 (up 46%)
  • It is interesting that in its final year the Q5 is looking to threaten Acura RDX’s 2nd position in the segment, though clearly this is coming at the expense of the Audi Allroad – with sales down by 82% (!) in Q3 it seems that Audi has pretty much given on the model
  • The outgoing Mercedes-Benz GLK may yet be overtaken not just by the BMW X3, but also by the Volvo XC60 and Lincoln MKC by the time the year is over
