Since the late 1990s, the Swedish car market has fluctuated between 240.000 and 425.000 annual sales. The market recovered from a low of under 250.000 sales in 2009 after two years of double digit declines to a record of nearly 435.000 sales 8 years later in 2017 before declining in 2018 and 2019 due to a higher tax on less efficient vehicles. LCV sales typically make up 12% of total car sales in Sweden.
