Or maybe it is something to do with the badge snobbery of the older, conservative clientele in these segments…

The A6 is the leader of the segment both in Europe and in China (year-to-date), but doesn’t seem to vibe with Americans, even after its subtle facelift.
I know Audi doesn’t (yet) have the same brand cachet as Mercedes and BMW, so a distant third fourth would be acceptable, but it just blows me away that the Genesis sells almost 50% more and even the grandpa mobile Cadillac XTS does better. What is it that the A6 is doing wrong for the Americans? Is it the too conservative styling? It can’t be just the brand image, because then it wouldn’t be behind the Genesis and the A8 wouldn’t be ahead of the Panamera.
I guess Americans just aren’t as obsessed with the logo as the Europeans and Chinese are, they are open to brands other than the German Big 3, a point which is proven by the Lexus ES.
